How to Make a Gate Fold Card

Have you made a Gate Fold Card? It is a fun twist on a card design.  The card opens from the middle like a gate, thus the name.

I began my card as an Early Espresso A2 size card, but scored it on the 8.5" side at 2.25, then folded the other side to meet the side I just scored.

I cut the oval frame from the Storybook Friends Bundle three times in Early Espresso card stock, layering them on top of each other to create depth.

I stamped, colored, and cut a floral image from the Charming Day Bundle  a couple of times and placed it on the lower right and upper left sides of my frame and chose a sheet of the Floral Charm DSP as a background for my focal images. I also stamped the Elements of Text image in second generation Early Espresso ink.

I stamped a retired Bible verse using the center of the oval frame as an anchor for my sentiment. I stamped it on Basic White card stock, then used the frame die to cut it out.  I now have another frame that I can save for later.

I stamped the verse a second time, colored the scripted words with my Light Timid Tiger Stampin' Blend, fussy cut them out, and adhered them on the plain text to give them a highlighted appearance.

Assembling the card...

1. Cut your DSP 2 x 5.25 (you will need two of these) and adhere it to each side of the card front, making the DSP flush with the card opening on each side.

2.  Adhere your frame to the LEFT side only of the card.  This will allow the card to open, if you place glue on the entire back side of the card, your card will be glued closed.

3. Place your oval sentiment in the center of your frame and adhere it to only one side of the card front.  I chose to adhere it to the right side, giving my opening an interlocking appearance as it is opened as seen in the photo below.

4. Adhere the floral images to the lower right and upper left sides of the frame.

5, Cut a piece of Timid Tiger Faux Linen ribbon and a piece of Linen Thread.  Fold the ribbon and tie it with the Linen Thread as shown. Use some Tear and Tape to adhere it to the top right of the card.

6. Add some Timid Tiger Flat Pearls to finish off the card.

Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you will give gate fold cards a try!  They are quick and easy to create and can be embellished as little or as much as you want!
