How to Create a Slimline Card

Have you made a slimline card before?  Every once in a while, it is fun to change up your card designs. Today, I'm going to create an 8.5 x 4.25 slimline card.  It can be mailed in a business size envelope.

I began by cutting an 8.5 square pieces of Misty Moonlight card stock. I scored the card stock at 4.25 and used my bone folder to flatten the spine of the card. I cut a piece of 4 x 8.25 piece of Crumb Cake card stock as my background on the card front.

I also cut 3 pieces of Very Vanilla card stock at 2.5 x 2.75. I used the plaid grid image from the Party Celebrations stamp set on each one in Crumb Cake ink. I also stamped the leaf and pumpkin images from this stamp set in Crumb Cake ink on the Crumb Cake panel for a tone-on-tone background.

I stamped the sweaters on Basic White card stock to create 3 sweaters, one in Misty Moonlight and two Pecan Pie ink.  One of the sweaters was stamped in third generation ink. I dry embossed this sweater with the Gathering Leaves embossing folder. To make the leaves appear more prominent, I gently rubbed the raised portions with a Misty Moonlight ink spot.

I used the sweater in the Stay Warm stamp set.  This is a reversible stamp set so I stamped the front, detailed side first. Then I stamped the back of the shape in second and third generation of the inks listed above. I also stamped the hat and mittens several times, then fussy cut all the images out.

Tip: Second generation stamping is when you ink the stamp, stamp off on scratch paper to remove some of the ink, then stamp the image. This will give you a lighter shade of the same color. Third generation stamping is stamping the image three times before re-inking, giving you a very light shade.

I glued the Crumb Cake panel to the Misty Moonlight card base, then angled each Very Vanilla rectangle to appear to be tumbling down the card.  I glued each sweater onto a rectangle, then used dimensionals to adhere the hats and mittens.

I stamped the "Warm Wishes" sentiment in Misty Moonlight ink and trimmed it with my paper cutter. I adhered it with dimensionals to the lower left side of the card. Lastly, I added some Misty Moonlight adhesive dots to finish off the card.

If you have never tried creating a slimline card, give it a try! It's a great way to challenge your creative ability!
