I love to make vintage cards and when you put a fruit cake image on a card as a focal point, that is definitely a vintage vibe! So when I read the last July Challenge of the month was a Christmas card, I thought why not use this cute image from the retired Sweets and Treats stamp set!
I began by stamping my image in Memento Black Ink and coloring it with Real Red, Daffodil Delight, Shaded Spruce, and retired Soft Suede Stampin' Blend markers. I used the Cloud Cover alcohol marker to highlight the icing and shade around the image.
I cut a stitched circle die from the Circle of Seasons Paper Pumpkin add on set and recycled the red tissue paper in my Paper Pumpkin this month to create a ribbon like embellishment.
I used a piece of the Sentimental Christmas DSP from last year, ran it through the retired Distressed Tile embossing folder, and sanded over the raised image to reveal parts of the white core. I also tore pieces of the edge to give it a more distressed look.
Tip: Sanding over images dry embossed on DSP or two tone card stock reveals the white core for more texture and dimension!
I cut an A2 card base in Shaded Spruce card stock and adhered the distressed panel to the card front. I used the red tissue paper to add a ruffle around the circle die and made a bow for the side. Working with the tissue paper was fairly easy as long as I used a gentle touch.
I stamped the "bring on Christmas!" sentiment on a strip of white card stock and flagged one end to finish off the card.
Have you tried to distress DSP by sanding it? If not, why not give it a try!
