Simple vs Stepped Up...Set #2

Do you enjoy making simple or stepped up projects? If you are like me, you enjoy both! Sometimes it is nice to sit down and create some projects that are pretty but don't involve a lot of steps. Other times, I like to sit down and spend more time on a single card.  If you are like me, it depends on how much time I have and if I'm feeling really creative.

As I was thinking about it earlier this week, I thought it would be nice to have a selection of both types of cards focusing on a single stamp set. I have decided to do this project using the Gift of Joy stamp set.  This is a set in the September Mini Catalog that caught me attention the first time I flipped through the catalog. The simple drawings and two step stamping procedure are what caught my attention.

Tip: Two step stamping is the process of layering stamped images created to work together.

For my simple card today, I started with an A2 Basic White card base. I stamped the wreath in Shaded Spruce ink, the ornament in Secret Sea and Pool Party inks and the bow and sentiment in Real Red ink.  I find it easier to stamp the detailed images first then stamp the image that fills the outline portion.  It can be done either way though.

For my stepped up version, I began with an A2 card base in Pool Party card stock. I cut a piece of the North Pole Delivery DSP a quarter inch smaller and adhered it to the front of the card.  I cut a white panel that was 4' tall and just wide enough for the wreath, then adhered it to a Real Red card stock panel.

I stamped the wreath and ornament in the same colors as the card above, but this time I added a swish of red to the ornament. I stamped the bow in Real Red ink and fussy cut it out. Then I adhered it with a dimensional to the top of the wreath. I stamped "Merry" in Pool Party ink in first and second generation inks as a background and on a tag for my sentiment.  I ink blended around the tag in Pool Party ink and added 3 rhinestone Pool Party gems.  I also stamped a few snowflakes randomly around the DSP for a little more interest. To finish off the card, I used my dark Real Red Stampin' Blend to color nine rhinestone gems to place in groups of three on the wreath.

Do you prefer the stepped up version or the simple version? I'd love to know!

I'll be posting another set in a day or so. Be sure to stop back by soon!
